Lake District Mountain Rescue Search Dog Association

We are volunteers based in the lake district - we train dogs to work alongside the police, fire service and mountain rescue teams to search for injured, missing and vulnerable people day and night. All of the dog handlers are mountain rescue volunteers in their own right. The 15 handlers may be called out as much as 60-80 times per year to incidents that have included train and plane crashes, major mountain incidents and semi rural and urban searches for the vulnerable. The work of the team is entirely funded through voluntary donation - on average it costs a handler approx £500-£1000 annually to fund their work with the dog. In the past 25 years we have attended over 1000 callouts and rescue over 100 people.
