Five Talents enables the rural enterprising poor to set up and grow their own small businesses by providing business training in combination with savings and microloan facilities.
2 billion people are still without access to financial services, including 66% of adults in sub-saharan Africa. This will not do. Simple activities like being able to save and borrow are crucial if the active poor are to experience real economic empowerment.
Our purpose is to provide innovative savings schemes, small loans, and business training for the active poor. It’s microfinance for the marginalised. And we know it makes a difference. We have nearly 76,000 clients supported by local partners in eight countries. Our clients have dignity, determination and know that we genuinely care.
We only work with local partners, all of whom are professionals in microsavings and loans schemes and small enterprise development, and who know their communities intimately, for this is where they have lived, studied and worked for years. As a Christian-led organisation, we have principles of partnership which you can view here.
Five Talents aims to:
- To reach 250,000 clients across Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda by the end of 2020
- To fight poverty, create jobs and transform lives. We do this by supporting innovative savings schemes, small loans, and business training to rural poor.
