Send a Cow

Send a Cow works hand in hand with poor families, teaching them the skills they need to build new lives free from poverty and hunger. We provide training, seeds, livestock and support.

Founded 1988

  • Mission statement

In Africa, countless families have land but lack the means, the knowledge or the motivation to make it productive. Our programme provides struggling farmers with the skills and tools to turn things around – often against great odds. With the hope and the means, families are set to secure their own futures from the land.

Poverty robs people of the power to choose their own path. We work with communities across Africa to overcome challenges such as a lack of education, low self-confidence, isolation and prejudice. Little by little, they gain the courage and skills needed to achieve their goals. This change in mindset is a foundation that sustains famers for generations. The means to end rural poverty is at the fingertips and under the toes of poor farmers. Soil has the potential to nourish people and animals. Working with natural systems, farmers can boost farm yields, conserve water and enrich fields. By integrating crops with livestock, farmers are able to feed their families and earn a decent income in harmony with the environment. It's not enough for farming families to simply get by. They want a different future for the next generation. With increased income comes the opportunity to invest in children’s education, in farm improvements, new livestock and processing equipment. Helping farmers make the leap from subsistence farming to running small family businesses built to last.
