Teign Heritage, formerly known as Teignmouth & Shaldon Museum, in South Devon, is planning to embark on a major re-development which will involve extending and renovating the present ‘traditional’ museum building to create a contemporary Heritage and Education centre which will be named the Teign Heritage Centre.
The current Museum also has no modern visitor facilities and very limited space with the result that its collections are suffering from inadequate storage facilities. Indeed many historic items are not on view, such as the Battle Flag flown by Sir Edward Pellew, later Lord Exmouth, at the Battle of Algiers, which the museum is currently unable to display because of the limited space.
Aims of the Teign Heritage Centre
Your support would certainly help us towards achieving the aims of the new Teign Heritage Centre which are:
• to preserve, for the long-term, the cultural heritage of the area
• to make the Heritage Centre fully accessible to all sections of the community
• to improve the interpretation and presentation of the area’s heritage
• to ensure the Heritage Centre thrives as a voluntary organisation
• to offer a much-needed community venue in the town
We have already secured £573,290 of the total project cost of £843,290, comprising both financial and ‘in kind’ support. We are now working to raise the remaining balance of £270,000 by June 2008. We aim to commence construction by late 2008/early 2009, with the new centre planned to be open at the start of 2010.
