Making Music, the National Federation of Music Societies

Making Music is the charity supporting amateur musical activity in the UK, from choirs to orchestras, brass bands to ukulele groups, choral societies to samba bands.
Our vision is that everyone should have opportunities within reach to make and present their kind of music with others.
The benefits for individuals and their communities are now well-researched and well-documented, and we want to be able to reach more people and help support them in making music.

Founded 1935

  • Mission statement

Making Music's vision is that everyone should have opportunities within reach to make and present their kind of music with others.
We are a membership organisation which supports, stands up for and celebrates groups of people making and presenting music together in their leisure time across the UK.
As a charity, we are looking to support more people to discover the benefits of music-making and more communities to have flourishing musical activities connecting them and contributing to them being good places to live.
