Disability Network Hounslow

Disability Network Hounslow (DNH) strives to relieve the experience of disability and exists to create an inclusive and more equitable environment for all disabled people & carers.

Founded 1987

  • Mission statement

Disability Network Hounslow (DNH) strives to relieve the experience of disability and exists to create an inclusive environment for all disabled people & carers in Hounslow & the surrounding boroughs. DNH operates the social model of disability that considers disability in the context of the social and environmental factors that create disabling barriers to disabled people's participation in society.

DNH, set up in 1987 by disabled people to support disabled people, is the borough's only independent, member-led, pan-disability charity serving the whole of the disabled community of Hounslow, including carers, young and old, no matter what their disability, or ethnic, social & religious background, or gender or sexual orientation. DNH tries to ensure that the services it provides are delivered in the main by people who are themselves living with a disability, either their own or as a Carer of a family member, friend or neighbour. The majority of DNH Trustees, Staff & Volunteers have direct experience of disability: either their own or as a Carer.

It alleviates poverty and suffering by providing information, advice and advocacy to access rights; work; education; services; housing & benefits, and by providing opportunities for peer support, social activities & volunteering and other learning/confidence building opportunities for career & personal development. The project has raised over £1. 5 million in back dated benefit awards for disabled people & their carers in Hounslow.
