Willington Action for Youth

The Charity Willington Action for Youth also known as WAfY was established in December 2001. It was the idea of the collective Head Teachers and the EAZ (Education Action Zone) Director for the Willington Family of Schools (Churchill Community College and the four Primary Schools in its family); set up to supplement the individual Parent Teachers Associations within each of the schools. WAfY is for parents, teachers but also the local community residents and businesses, who want to support the local schools and local youth.

The objects of WAfY are to support activities for young people in Howdon/Willington area, particularly through the schools. This is achieved through writing bids to external agencies for funding and holding fundraising events.

The WAfY Committee is chaired by Mark Patton, an Assistant Head Teacher at Churchill Community College, the Treasurer is Yvonne Welsh, a parent of a former pupil of Churchill Community College and the Secretary is Allison Phillips, the Education Co-ordinator.
