Charity information

Dormers Wells Trust Ltd.

We commenced fund raising for a community hub building in 2000 and moved into our new premises in September 2006. The £1. 4 million costs were raised through a wide range of charitable sources. It has given us a Community Centre dedicated to education, health and well being and a community nursery - all of this is non profit making and serving a very deprived area in Ealing, London. This is Dormers Wells Southall that is within top 10% nationally for deprivation and consists of a huge black and ethnic minority population, including many new arrivals with asylum and refugee status.
Within the local community there are major health problems involving obseity, diabetes and coronary heart disease. There are high rates of unemployment and where people are employed, it is usually very low paid. The work of the Trust is to support families into better physical health and mental well being; to provide courses that improve opportunities for better paid employment; to provide all year round nursery care at below commercial rates, to support parents and carers into employment and training. Having completed the building, the struggle now is to maintain the revenue past short term funding, so that the trust can plan the service over a longer term. Like many voluntary organisations, funding tends to be yearly or on a one off project basis.
