RP Fighting Blindness is the only UK charity which specialises in supporting people with inherited retinal dystrophies and providing support for those affected. Inherited retinal dystrophies cause progressive sight loss and there are currently no effective treatments.

Founded 1976

  • Mission statement

Our mission is to stimulate and support high quality medical research with the aim of increasing scientific understanding of retinitis pigmentosa (RP) and related retinal dystrophies, and finding treatments that will be accessible to all affected.

We also seek to identify or provide good quality and universally-accessible information and support services for people affected.

We aspire to a world in which people with RP will have access to treatments and will not lose their sight.

  • Aims

    RP Fighting Blindness aims to:

    • To provide (or signpost) high quality information and support services to people and families faced with sight loss as a result of inherited retinal dystrophies.
    • To improve scientific understanding of, and progress the search for a treatment for, retinitis pigmentosa and related retinal dystrophies, in order that people affected will not lose their sight.
