The Air Ambulance Service

The Air Ambulance Service (TAAS) comprises Warwickshire & Northamptonshire Air Ambulance (WNAA), Derbyshire, Leicestershire & Rutland Air Ambulance (DLRAA), and The Children’s Air Ambulance (TCAA).

Founded 2003

  • Mission statement

TAAS exists to save lives and improve patient outcomes by rapidly delivering expert care to those who need us most. We receive no Government funding, relying entirely on donations to keep our lifesaving teams in the air.

TCAA is a unique, national service, transferring seriously ill children and babies from their current hospital to lifesaving specialist treatment in dedicated paediatric units throughout the country. We give some of the tiniest lives the greatest chance of survival and recovery.
Many of the 5,800 babies and children who need emergency transfers every year must undergo long road journeys to reach lifesaving treatment. Our helicopter transfers are around four times faster than the same journey by land ambulance, significantly reducing risk by minimising risk for our tiny patients minimising their time out of hospital.

WNAA & DLRAA are our two Helicopter Emergency Services (HEMS), attending local incidents to treat patients at the scene and transfer them to the most suitable hospital for their injuries. We rapidly bring the hospital to the patient, significantly improving their chances of survival and recovery.
Attending an average of 6 rescues every day, our helicopters’ speed means our teams can be at the scene in under 10 minutes, saving crucial time and enabling us to reach accidents that would be inaccessible by land. Over 90% of our missions also carry a doctor on board, enabling advanced medical intervention and higher levels of medication.
