Sound Seekers

Sound Seekers works to improve the lives of children and adults with hearing loss in the developing world.

Founded 1959

  • Mission statement

Sound Seekers is dedicated to helping children and adults with hearing loss in the poorest communities of the developing world. We support projects that advance understanding of their needs and improve access to health services, education, and social support, together with initiatives that enable children to avoid, or overcome, the effects of deafness and ear disease.

We work in partnership with local organisations and institutions to ensure we deliver appropriate, sustainable and cost-effective projects in the areas where they are most needed.

  • Aims

    Sound Seekers aims to:

    • Prevention We distribute mosquito nets and work with partner agencies to raise awareness of the dangers of malaria and other causes and to promote basic ear care.
    • Traning We also provide training and create job opportunities through our AMT course, and for drivers, technicians, nurses and audiologists from local communities in our HARK! teams.
    • Education We help to provide schooling and education to deaf and hearing impaired children by funding building projects, providing materials and equipment, and overseeing projects.
    • Awareness We work with deaf children, their parents and communities to teach them about ear care, the causes of hearing loss, and how deafness needn’t be an obstacle to integration within society.
    • Delivering health care and support One of the key services we deliver is HARK! mobile earcare clinics which deliver outreach audiology and ear disease treatment services in isolated poor communities.
