The Brokerage Citylink
The Brokerage Citylink
The Brokerage provides employability skills and opportunities for students at state schools in London's poorest boroughs, leading to paid internships and jobs in professional and financial services.
The Brokerage's mission is to work with young people to raise aspirations, create access and provide opportunities within financial and professional services to achieve diversity in the workplace.
Our vision is a world where a young person’s ability and aspiration alone determine their career path.
Professional and financial services companies will recognise the business value to be derived from employing local people, and as a result will build a more diverse and effective workforce.
Our programmes start with workplace visits and school-based experiences for pupils aged 10-19 at London state schools and colleges, raising aspirations and career prospects. They continue with work experience and paid internship opportunities during sixth form and university, providing opportunities for these students to enter employment in the business and financial services sectors.
We provide employers with the advice and the means to engage with local communities and access local talent, helping them to improve social mobility in London's most disadvantaged areas. 14 of the 20 highest child poverty-rated local authorities in the UK are in London. We focus on bright young people from those schools and boroughs with the most disadvantage, using higher than average take-up of free school meals and whether English is a second language as indicators.
The Brokerage Citylink aims to:
- Raise career aspirations among state school students in London, particularly those in disadvantaged areas, and assist teachers in providing career opportunities and advice.
- Create career opportunities in accountancy, law, banking and insurance, helping employers reach out to a diverse talent pool, ensuring opportunities are available to all, regardless of background.
- To raise the profile of The Brokerage among City businesses, young people, educational institutions, the media and opinion formers, in order to influence social mobility and diversity policies.
