The Pleasance Theatre Trust

The Pleasance is dedicated to innovation in public performance and to development of young talent.

Founded 1994

  • Mission statement

The Pleasance is one of the major producers and developers of Fringe Theatre, with seasons in London and at the Edinburgh Festival, presenting over 250 companies on 20+ specially equipped stages to a total audience of over 400,000 people in 25 days. The London Pleasance has two spaces, rehearsal rooms and studios, designed and constructed mostly in house, as a forcing ground for innovation and young talent.

    The Charity’s aims are:

    • to offer to the public the opportunity to experience new trends in live performance, alongside outstanding examples of more traditional practice
    • to foster innovation in performance across a wide spectrum of artistic enterprise
    • to offer opportunities to young performers

The Charity’s objectives are the fulfilment of the above aims through

    • provision of a programme of performances in its London theatre spaces
    • production of a season of performances at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival
    • operation of activities of the Young Pleasance, co-operation with the local borough and major drama schools
    • creation of development centre for new companies, producers and performers

The Pleasance has been self-financing for almost 30 years, but has set a target fund of £1m to energise the next phase of a multi-media development centre, concentrating on new companies and producers, and to expand its thriving activities as the theatre of choice for innovative performers.
