Chester-le-Street and District Council for Voluntary Service and Volunteer Bureau

A donation to the CVS is a good way of supporting Chester-le-Street District.
Our role is to support all voluntary and community groups in the district.
Our members represent older people, children and young people , people with disabilities and carers.
These groups are often the first to find innovative solutions to local social issues from isolation to bereavement from homelessness to depression.
We provide underpinning support to local community groups and charities so that they can better deliver their services to those in need.
For example we give direct support in the preparation of written funding applications and business plans , demonstrating impact, understanding legal structures , recruitment and support of new volunteers and developing more sustainable ways of working.
Last year as the direct result of our support we helped local groups such as MIND and M. E North East raise £1. 5 million. (See our project for more details. )

We also manage two buildings
Bullion Hall – a community centre providing a wide range of activities from Parent and Toddler groups to Tai Kwan Do, in the most deprived ward in the district. This building receives a through put of some 40,000 visits per year.

The Volunteer Centre – this houses a range of local charities working for older people, young people, those with special needs or specific medical conditions. This building is extremely run down and does not do justice to the incredible activities supported therein.
