Charity information

Oxford International Biomedical Centre (OIBC)

We are a UK non-governmental organization (NGO) with charitable status (No 1038260)
Our vision is of a world in which wider access to scientific learning brings better health and quality of life

Founded 1992

  • Mission statement

    Our mission is two-fold.
First, to enthuse youth into science and to promote better communication skills and awareness among the most disadvantaged of these so that they are more able to compete for good jobs and places at prestigious universities. We achieve this by bringing leading experts to schools to interact directly with students. Because we value the wisdom and experience of the elderly, we make these events inter-generational.
Second, to help young scientists from sub-Saharan Africa to realize their innate potential. We achieve this by promoting technology transfer and training, educational and other programs, through partnership with governmental institutions.

  • Aims

Oxford International Biomedical Centre (OIBC) aims to:

    • Enable students from sub-Saharan Africa to participate in our annual summer school on 'Global Health'
    • Help disadvantaged youngsters to achieve social mobility through improvement of their communication skills (interviewing scientific experts, speaking in public, reporting scientific break-throughs).
    • Promote interaction between the young and the elderly through debate on controversial scientific issues
