  • Mission statement

We are a charity in the UK that supports the educational institutions and peace-building programmes of NSWaS in Israel. NSWaS is the only community in which Jewish Israelis and Palestinian citizens of Israel have chosen to live together in peace and equality. Through their example, and their outreach educational work, they stand as a testament against extremism and radicalization. We believe that peace is possible between Arabs and Jews through supporting education, dialogue and the promotion of equality and understanding. Particularly important is the education of children together, learning each other's language and culture. Through education comes social and political change. We do this through fundraising events large and small; through seeking grants from charitable foundations and trusts; and through the generosity of more than a thousand individual donors. Secondly, we undertake activities to raise the awareness of the British public about NSWaS and its importance as an example of peace and reconciliation in that troubled country. These include taking visitors to the Village to experience at first hand its activities and ethos, as well as bringing ambassadors from NSWaS to the UK for educational tours. We are pleased to furnish additional information on request.

The Charity relies heavily on volunteers, supported by a small office staff.

  • Aims

Oasis of Peace UK (British Friends of Neve Shalom/Wahat al Salam - NSWaS) aims to:

    • Supporting the bilingual bicultural primary school at NSWaS, which is attended by 200 children from the surrounding region as well as the village.
    • Supporting youth programmes at the School for Peace, a dialogue centre; the first opportunity for Jewish and Arab high school students from across Israel to meet socially in a safe and neutral space.
    • Making it possible for people of all faiths (and none) to meet and discuss their beliefs, and challenge misconceptions they may hold about one another.
