IMPACT is an international programme to prevent and alleviate needless disability. All of our projects are run by local people in touch with real need - they also contribute resources.
IMPACT's aim is simple - that no one should become or remain needlessly disabled by disease, lack of knowledge or shortage of medical facilities.
600 million people in our world are disabled. 80% live in developing countries and 1/3 are children. IMPACT believes that at least half this disability could have been prevented or could be treated, often at low cost.
IMPACT takes straightforward, value for money action in some of the world's poorest communities and here in the UK. For example, taking the hospital to the people by boat, train or mobile clinic and establishing community-based primary healthcare projects that really make a difference to wellbeing and also alleviate poverty. Empowering people with education and training enables them to meet their own needs through their own efforts and is a sustainable solution.
Cost-effectiveness is a measure that counts with IMPACT - 91 pence of every £1 donated was invested directly in our projects in 2010/2011
