Money for Madagascar

We work in partnership with Malagasy organisations to promote the relief of poverty in all its forms in both rural and urban areas of Madagascar.

Founded 1986

  • Mission statement

Our charity raises funds to enable Malagasy organisations to undertake development work. We believe in investing in people and their environment for the long-term. We encourage sustainability and self-reliance in our ventures. We fund and monitor projects across the whole of Madagascar regardless of the creed or ethnic group of beneficiaries. Whilst we do not fund wildlife conservation directly, we do so indirectly by helping people to find sustainable ways of living within their precious and unique environment.

Our projects are people-orientated and focus on education; the prevention and relief of poverty; and raising awareness of development issues.

Grants are given to approved Malagasy NGOs whose aims are compatible with ours.

Projects currently funded by MfM include: a large food-security programme in the Eastern rainforest, reforestation programmes in the West, literacy classes, construction of schools, women’s vocational training schemes, nutrition programmes and programmes working with destitute children in the capital. We monitor work via reports from the field and annual visits to the projects by a Trustee.

MfM started in 1986 as a Concern of Swansea Quaker Meeting and became an independent charity in 1990. The charity is administered by 3 executive officers - a Co-ordinator, a Treasurer, an Assistant Treasurer, 6 non-executive trustees and 1 paid Development Officer.
