Charity information

Handsworth Christian School

HCS is an evangelical school of 135 pupils aged 4 - 16. We attract pupils from backgrounds where parents would never normally be able to afford school fees. We receive no help whatsoever other than very occasional, small donations from local charities.
We survive because our 22 staff, full and part time, work for salaries between a quarter and one half of what the same people would earn in state schools.
We take from Christian homes, non Christian and have some 20% from other religious backgrounds.
We are presently housed in buildings which are all of the Portakabin type except for one ancient, stone built bakehouse used for offices and several classrooms. We have very good GCSE results from a non selective intake and have the worst building provision of any school in S. Yorkshire.
Refurbishment is what we seek most at this time.
