Teesside & District Society for the Blind

We provide social activities for local blind and partially sighted people living in the Teesside area therefore relieving isolation, loneliness and encouraging socialisation and independence.

  • Mission statement

    The aims and objectives of this society are to help blind and partially sighted people living in the Teesside area to retain or regain independence in their day to day lives. The Society provides a range of services, including: Social Centre, Home Visiting Scheme, Shopping Escort Service, Resource Centre, Advice and Information, Counselling Service, Computer Training, Holidays and much more.

  • Aims

    Teesside & District Society for the Blind aims to:

    • Social Centre where visually impaired people can come together to socialise, make friends , share coping strategies and take part in varied activities including holidays and outings.
    • Transportation - by means of our minibuses which transport the clients to/from their home and centre - eliminating the need to use public transport and the difficulties experienced changing buses.
    • Information, Advice and Guidance - providing the visually impaired person with the means to cope with day to day living by using specially developed aids and equipment. For example: Talking Watches
    • Life Skills - bringing people together with the same problems so they can share coping strategies as well as form new friendships.
    • Events - regularly held to bring together exhibitors of aids for visually impaired people so they have the opportunity to try something out before they buy it. Also Social Services Advice stands.
