Contact the Elderly
Contact the Elderly
Contact the Elderly is the only national charity solely dedicated to tackling loneliness and social isolation amongst older people, through regular face-to-face contact
Contact the Elderly organises regular monthly outings for frail, isolated, elderly people aged 75 and over who have little or no contact with the outside world.
One house in seven in the UK is home to a pensioner who lives alone, an estimated 140,000 of whom will have gone a full month in the last year without speaking to friends, family, or neighbours, spending their lives in isolation.... Weeks alone with only visits from the home help to break the monotony, but who have precious little time to stop and chat.
Contact the Elderly can change this, by bringing almost 5,000 older people out of their homes each month to spend happy hours in the company of others - something to look forward to and the chance to make new friends, a chance thought lost forever.
Our get-togethers are unique because they are held in volunteer's homes, and the guests are collected from their homes by volunteers who use their own cars. This non institutional, private hospitality provides dignity and the sense of being, once again, part of a family.
Together with the help of our fantastic volunteers we provide vital social contact to otherwise isolated older people, bringing them a sense of community and real chance at friendship.
Contact the Elderly aims to:
- To provide groups to support the growing number of isolated older people who living alone with limited contact from family, friends or statutory services.
