Siblings Together

We re-unite brothers and sisters separated by the care system through their doing creative activities together, with skilled adult supervision.

Founded 2009

  • Mission statement

Our mission is to ensure all brothers and sisters separated by the care system have the opportunities to meet and build positive relationships that most children have. We believe children have a fundamental human right to access their siblings.
We promote positive, enjoyable, creative and safe contact between brothers and sisters separated by care, helping them to develop strong family bonds and above all grow towards achieving an independent and positive place in society supported by their sibling relationships. We have pioneered four unique, successful and complementary programmes:
o Residential Camps: an opportunity for siblings to go on holiday together and bond whilst engaging in a range of active and creative activities
o Monthly Activity Days: an opportunity for siblings to get together at a local youth centre on a monthly basis
o Sibling Befriending: a regular opportunity for separated siblings to meet doing a joint activity of their choice supported by a trained volunteer adult befriender
o Creative Connections: opportunities for high quality creative activities for young people in care, developing their skills and confidence
We also work with partners to influence and change policy and practice in the UK care system so that the very high priority children in care themselves give to on-going contact with their siblings is better reflected in decision making.

  • Aims

    Siblings Together aims to:

    • We offer exceptional learning, creative and supportive opportunities for youth in care who often miss out on continuity in childhood, which others take for granted. Strengthening a sense of belonging.
    • We aim to re-unite brothers and sisters separated by the care system, to develop self-supporting family networks that will sustain them both in care and later in life. Maintaining lifelong bonds.
