UAFA's main areas of work include provision of services for typical and disabled children, in institutions and communities, research & advocacy at national level for reform of child welfare system.

Founded 1998

  • Mission statement

Disability and poverty are inextricably linked yet solutions and services are too often planned separately, and children and families continue to be trapped in the cycle of poverty. UAFA offers an alternative approach.

Long-term - building towards reform through years of service provision and advocacy
Expertise - a cadre of local professionals who have been trained by best disability experts in the world
Field-based - time spent with children and families, time spent lobbying Government, time spent raising awareness

UAFA advocates at the highest government level to improve policy-making and implementation of legislation - as a result of the trust and reputation we have developed in Parliament for consistent and objective analysis, they have opened the doors to reputable NGOs to participate in policy discussions and legislative reform. This is a major achievement of UAFA on behalf of civil society and NGOs.
