Home-Start Lambeth works with local vulnerable families with children under 5 by providing trained volunteers who visit each week to offer regular and long-term emotional and practical support.
Home-Start Lambeth helps vulnerable local families with young children who are on the brink of crisis or breakdown. Families need support for many reasons: post-natal depression, social isolation, domestic violence, the disability of a parent or child. We train, place and supervise volunteers who visit weekly to give long-term emotional and practical support. We also run play groups at several Lambeth children's centres.
A chaotic or neglectful family life is detrimental to children but many families in hardship are suffering from circumstances beyond their control. Home-Start volunteers are trained to help parents cope with the difficulties they face and to achieve the positive, caring interaction crucial to the well-being of their children. Our volunteers are drawn from the community where they work and rigorously trained, vetted and supervised. Our comprehensive preparation course also equips volunteers with skills and experience that will help many of them into paid employment so the benefits are two-fold.
Home-Start Lambeth aims to:
- To prevent family crisis by supporting parents in their own home and ensuring the wellbeing of their children.
- To provide comprehensive training to volunteers to support families and equip them with skills and experience to benefit their personal development and help them into paid employment.
