Charity information

Young Epilepsy (formerly NCYPE)

We are the only UK charity working solely on behalf of children and young people with epilepsy. We have a special school & college in Surrey and an epilepsy education programme for mainstream schools.

Founded 1897

  • Mission statement

Our mission is 'Better futures for young lives with epilepsy'.

Some 112,000 children and young people aged 25 and under are living with epilepsy in the UK. They can experience physical, educational, developmental and emotional effects which are often devastating. Sadly a general lack of understanding and an enduring degree of stigma only add to the mountainous difficulties that children and their families face. For this reason, we provide the very best services across all aspects of health, care, education and family support.

Our expertise in special education also enables us to support children and young people with other conditions such as autism or severe learning difficulties. We know there is a huge demand for information and support for parents and professionals and a need to improve access to, and quality of, education and health services.

Our name, Young Epilepsy, reflects our ambition to reach as many of the 112,000 children and young people with epilepsy, and their families, as possible and realise our ambition of creating better futures.
