Acton Homeless Concern

Our purpose is to reach out to the homeless and those who have nothing by providing a safe, friendly place where they will be warmly welcomed, treated with dignity and offered practical help.

Founded 1998

  • Mission statement

Our mission is to provide advice and support for those who need shelter and hope.
-We aim not turn anyone in need away.

    - We are where the homeless can access support networks, where their needs are recognised and their human rights respected

    - We offer hostel places through partnerships

    - We served over 45,500 hot meals in 2011/2012. We aim to provide a hot meal to everyone

    - We collect and give out clothes and shoes

    - We have a women and children's group

    - We offer drug and alcohol counselling, literacy classes, AA meetings, doctors, dentists, showers, appointments with a chiropodist, an optician.

    - We are located at the heart of the local community

Many come in great need: homeless or in poor accommodation, from broken families, suffering from the effects of recent bereavement, unemployment, mental illness and drug abuse among many other needs.

We work for justice to change the structures and systems that erode the dignity and quality of life of homeless people.

We aim to change the community's attitudes to the vulnerable and marginalised. In 2011/2011 we had over 13,700 hours of volunteer activity. A significant percentage of our volunteers have previously accessed our services and they work alongside volunteers from professional backgrounds, volunteers who come as part of a programme of volunteers from local banks, universities and the community who are brought together through this organisation.
