  • Mission statement

“Making Music – Changing Lives” is a community music project set up in 2009 which aims to provide quality music education that is accessible to all children and young people regardless of social and economic background. We currently work with children from 2 large housing estates, Ely and Caerau in the West of Cardiff, with very high levels of social and economic deprivation. We do this by:

    • developing a project model which ensures that children in the project are supported and encouraged to succeed whatever their home environment.
    • providing children with an instrument, tuition, support, ensemble activities, and the chance to hear high quality live music, all free of charge.
    • raising the self-esteem and aspirations amongst children and young people and their families.
    • ensuring that our work partners with other community projects contributing to and supporting social cohesion.

The project has a very organic life, so it intentionally started small with the aim of building up gradually in a sustainable way, though our long term vision is for every child in the area to be able to have the opportunity to learn a classical instrument should they wish. It is clear to see the development already as the sessions began as only one per week and currently there are 3 sessions weekly.
