Founded 1984

  • Mission statement

YES was set up to support disadvantaged adults and young people and children in Bristol. We now also support projects in Moreton in Marsh, Gloucestershire and Midnapur, West Bengal, India. YES exists at the interface of youth work and education. The youth work ethos, person-centred and with an emphasis on the development of self-esteem and motivation, meets the education and skills agenda. We are thus uniquely placed to deliver programmes focussed on nabling individuals to recognise the skills they have, and build on thesse skills. Our approach is non-authoritarian, non-academic and non-judgemental, which is so important for people who may need a fresh start and/or a different approach. In Bristol and Moreton in Marsh we provide Essential Skills - Literacy and Numeracy tuition for young people and adults who have missed out on other educational opportunities. To work in partnership with other organizations to find those potential students and work with them in places where they feel safe, and in ways which help them increase in confidence. To enable them to develop skills and to empower them to take control of their lives and develop personal learning goals.
