Family and Childcare Trust

The Family and Childcare Trust works to make the UK a better place for families. Bringing together learning from our on-the-ground programmes with families and our research, we make change happen by designing and campaigning for solutions that parents want and need. We focus on childcare and the early years to make a difference to families’ lives now and in the long term: good services give parents genuine choices about work and care and boost children’s outcomes throughout childhood

Founded 1999

  • Mission statement

The Family and Childcare Trust is a leading national family charity in the field of policy, research and parent led programmes, advocating on childcare and family issues. We have over 40 years’ experience of enabling parents to lead on finding innovative and achievable solutions to the biggest challenges to family wellbeing.

Our aim is to make the UK a better place for families – to build a society where all families can thrive and have real choices about working and caring, supported by services that meet their needs and are affordable, flexible, accessible and of high-quality. Our on-the-ground work with parents and providers informs our research and campaigns. We focus on the early years and childcare because they are crucial to boosting children’s outcomes throughout life and supporting parents to work. Families who face disadvantage, social exclusion and poverty are at the heart of our work.

  • Aims

Family and Childcare Trust aims to:

    • • Innovation - we work together with local groups of parents to identify, test and hone potential solutions on the ground, supported by strong evidence and insight from our research and policy work.
    • • Insight - we carry out research to understand family life and childcare and translate our learning into policy asks and to inform our work on the ground with parents.
    • • Influence - combining learning from our research and parent-led projects, we identify opportunities for policy change to better meet family needs and improve outcomes for their children.
