Music And Special Needs Norfolk

We are a small local charity supporting Music Therapy in Norfolk. We raise funds so that therapy sessions, particularly for young children, are not abruptly withdrawn before therapy can end safely.

Founded 1983

  • Mission statement

    2012 Earlham Project
Our reserves & donations enables us to support music therapy Earlham , where budget cuts had meant that they can no longer afford it, &. It has been effective & much valued.
NEW DEVELOPMENT. The therapist has been offered use of a room for two mornings a week nearby. She has moved in a donated piano at her own expense and is setting up this service voluntarily. The project plans to offer community music to local families, maybe with teenage volunteers. Three sessions of one to one music therapy with referred families from the community will be possible. This project is began in February 2013 and the MT is able to expand the work & take more referrals.

Music therapy involves a relationship between the therapist and client in which music making becomes a way of communicating, which then promotes change and growth. Those involved with the clients we have helped have reported very encouraging outcomes.
MSNN is consistently working to raise awareness of the benefits of music therapy.

  • Aims

Music And Special Needs Norfolk aims to:

    • Promote awareness of the charity through links with other local voluntary groups, music educators, community musicians, musical projects & music therapy charities in other areas
    • To provide funds so that people, particularly young children, can continue to receive music therapy sessions when funding has been withdrawn, until a therapeutic process can properly take effect.
    • To be a point of contact between Music Therapists and people requiring music therapy
    • To promote music therapy as an essential part of non-verbal early assessment and as a most cost effective form of early intervention
