Award-winning professional arts enterprise dedicated to the dramatic exploration of classic Muslim world literature and the experience of Muslims in the modern world for the stage, radio and screen.

  • Mission statement

    Artistic: To liquefy the cultural and aesthetic capital inherent in the celebrated repositories of Islamic art and heritage and the universal trend within Muslim world literature and synthesise it with British theatre practice in order to produce high quality original stage productions and theatre-in-education programmes.

    Socio-Cultural: To prospect and mobilise artists of diverse faith and secular traditions to develop new audiences for the theatre within especially but not solely Muslim communities and new audiences for inclusive Muslim world literature, art and culture within wider society in the interest of intercultural and interfaith understanding and integration.

    Mission Values: Artistic Excellence, Social Inclusion, Religious Harmony, Young People, Education, Equality, Diversity, Wisdom and the Universal Dream of Virtue.

  • Aims

    Khayaal Theatre Company aims to:

    • Creatively and imaginatively demonstrate reconciliation and integration between tradition and modernity, being British and Muslim and between Muslims and peoples of other faith and secular traditions.
    • Revive, re-present and mainstream the currently under represented rich aesthetic, artistic, craft and literary traditions of the Muslim world in British theatre and education.
    • Provide a popular and inclusive socio-cultural and participatory reference point especially but not solely for young people that serves as an alternative to criminality, disaffection, and extremism.
