The Citizens Foundation builds and runs primary and secondary schools for Pakistan's out-of-school underprivileged children. The Citizens Foundation (UK) (TCF-UK) supports TCF in this venture.

  • Mission statement

    TCF-UK's principal objective is to raise awareness of and funds for the TCF, Pakistan’s leading charity in the field of formal education for underprivileged children.

    1 in 10 of the world’s out-of-school primary aged children resides in Pakistan - the second largest number in the world. TCF's network of purpose built and professionally managed high-performing schools are found in areas beyond the reach of state education and where intergenerational cycles of illiteracy and poverty are rife.

    TCF was built on the principle that education is a right, not a privilege, and to this day TCF’s core objective remains to address the issues of illiteracy and poverty and to empower women and girls in Pakistan.

    Since its inception in 2001, TCF-UK has supported TCF to build 42 schools in Pakistan. In 2014, TCF-UK supported the running of 63 schools benefitting 9,135 impoverished students.

    TCF's Achievements:

    -1,060 high-performing schools located in urban and rural slums across Pakistan
    -165,000 underprivileged children presently enrolled
    - Well-rounded, modern and high-quality education
    -Approximately 50% female enrolment
    -8,900 all-female faculty
    -A nationwide presence
    -91% pass rate in national secondary schools exams vs. National average of 35%
    -Non-political, non-religious NGO
    - Awarded by the Schwab Foundation, Skoll Foundation and honoured with the Ramon Magsaysay Award - widely seen as Asia's Nobel Prize
