Go Commando

We support Royal Marines and their families: wives; girlfriends; children; parents; and bereaved. We are a National charity, based in Somerset, fostering supportive links with the local community.

Founded 2010

  • Mission statement

Our mission is to support Royal Marines and their families. The tempo of deployment for the military is unrelenting and the toll can be high for the families of those serving. We aim to support the wives, children and wider family through provision of much-needed childcare; youth facilities; educational grants and advice on returning to work for women and support to the men themselves.
We have organised a number of valued Families' Days and pledge to open a dedicated Families' Centre within the local community with creche facilities; study rooms and IT facilities. Sadly, not all of the men come home and we hope to offer Trust Funds to the children whose fathers are killed in action: we hope that it will help the bereaved next of kin and the mothers left at home to know that their children will be supported.
It can be a very hard job indeed to live in a modern military family: to be moved at short notice; to spend long periods of time apart from your loved one and to be seperated from your wider family and friends. Go Commando recognises that the families need to be part of the local community and need practical and emotional support during the tough times. We also recognise that by helping the wives, girlfriends, children and mums we are helping the Marines. We are not a political organisation: we want to help the men and their families, not the cause. We do not judge, but simply say that we are proud of our Royal Marines and this is how we choose to fly our flag.
