  • Mission statement

TS St Edmund is a youth organisation which works alongside school and college based education to encourage young people to achieve and fulfil their potential as well as working with other agencies to recognise and encourage society to be responsive to the needs of young people. We rely on ‘voluntary’ learning – young people come to us because they want to. This often means that we are able to reach those pupils who are sometimes at odds with the rigidity of conventional education.

Sea Cadets is not just about turning up to a club twice a week, TS St Edmund offers all enrolled cadets (aged 14 years) the opportunity to join the Duke of Edinburgh schemes, this gives a cadet a nationally recognised qualification.

TS St Edmund also offers (at the age of 16 years) the opportunity to join the BTEC courses in public services, marine engineering and music. Each course offers 4 C to A* qualifications to add to GCSE's gained from school.

Every cadet is given the opportunity to join a specialisation class which range from seamanship, marine engineering, cook steward, communications and first aid.

Once a cadet is 12 they are able to attend different course at various Sea Cadet Centres and Royal Naval Bases around the country. Also on offer is the chance to spend a week away on one of the Sea Cadet offshore fleet, these vary from a tall ship to power vessels.

At TS St Edmund as well as being uniformed, disciplined unit we are also a place where cadets can make new friends.
