MASH works with vulnerable female sex workers in Manchester to keep them safe and healthy and empower them to make real choices about their lives

Founded 1991

  • Mission statement

‘MASH works with female sex workers to promote sexual health, well being and personal safety whilst offering choice, support and empowerment to promote individual positive life changes”
MASH has been supporting female sex workers in Manchester for over 20 years. Sex workers, especially those who work the streets are some of the most vulnerable and marginalised women in society. Many have backgrounds of abuse and addiction and homelessness and mental health are major problems. The MASH Centre is open day and night and offers a safe, warm, welcoming space where women can see a nurse, get advice and support and access education and counselling. The MASH van goes out at night to women working on the streets. As well as a friendly face the van workers provide condoms, clean needles and food. We also deliver sexual health services to women working in massage parlours and visit women in Styal prison weekly. We have over 50 highly trained volunteers. Last year 12 women left sex work altogether, 28 accessed counselling, 120 engaged with our “Life Skills” programme, and over 300 were seen by our nurses.

    • “I love MASH it gives me something to focus on in life”
