Charity information

Bingley Little Theatre

An amateur theatre group established 1947 with over 300 members presenting 9 major productions a year. The group has recently taken on full management and maintenance of Bingley's ailing Arts Centre.

Founded 1947

  • Mission statement

This amateur organisation intends to continue to present well balanced programmes of traditional and contemporary theatre to further enhance its reputation as one of the leading theatre groups in the North. Bingley Little Theatre has always encouraged youth within its ranks and part-time professional staff offer speech and drama classes to children from 6 to 17 years old. The group intends to maintain the high standard of education with a syllabus that includes LAMDA exams, one main house production plus end of term presentations.
The recent acquisition of the town's sadly neglected Arts Centre on a 99 year lease will be a major strain on the company's finances and resources. A condition of the takeover from Bradford MD Council was that the 38 year old building, comprising 350 seat auditorium/hall, lounge, dressing rooms, office and meeting rooms will be maintained and managed for use of the local community. As well as the Theatre's 17 weeks a year, current users include local musical societies, Flower Club, children and adult drama and dance groups, schools and national charitable organisations. It is also used for Blood Donor sessions and antique fairs.
Work already done includes redecoration, overhaul of the auditorium seating and installation of safety rails. Fire doors and some windows have been replaced and an online booking system installed.
Phase 2 will include additional dressing rooms, new kitchen and toilet facilities at a cost of £80,000.

  • Aims

    Bingley Little Theatre aims to:

    • By publicising the use of the refurbished Arts Centre we aim to encourage its use by all the local community organisations.
    • We currently provide local charities with 50 tickets per production for them to sell. This scheme has currently raised over £20,000 for local charities and we intend to continue it.
    • The Arts Centre is being improved to accommodate all local charitable groups and hire of it will be offered to them at a realistic charge.
