Supporting parents in diverse situations such as: isolation; bereavement; multiple births; illness; disability or who are just finding parenting a struggle.
Home-Start Colchester has a proven track record in supporting vulnerable families in the Colchester area. For 17 years we have been making a significant difference to the lives of young children and families across the borough. Home-Start Colchester offers practical one to one, personal support for parents,it reaches out to families at risk of social exclusion and includes those who do not engage with other services. Home-Start provides practical support in the home where families need it the most. Trained staff visit families at their home and jointly identify the support required to create bespoke plans to meet those needs, which could include attending therapy appointments with parents to support confidence, offering practical support by watching a child while mum attends therapy, or providing hands-on help to care for twins or triplets. Trained parent volunteers are then carefully matched to families to maximise the likelihood of achieving positive outcomes. A volunteer supports the family from 2-3 hours a week on average from 3–12 months. The flexibility and diversity of our service through the broad range of skills of our staff and volunteers enables us to adapt our services to meet the needs of diverse families.
