Starfish Asia brings new hope to the lives of the poor, especially among minority communities in Pakistan. We support the education of more than 6,000 children from poor families.
Starfish Asia is a UK Charity that is linked with 25 local partners in Pakistan who are serving the poor, especially in the minority Christian community. We recognise that the poor and the minorities are often deprived of access to quality education or real justice, often downtrodden, marginalised and neglected by society. There is still real prejudice and discrimination against the Christian poor.
We provide resources to capable and trusted national partners with a track record of compassion, concern and care and a proven ability to uplift their community. Starfish Asia is therefore supporting more than 6,000 destitute and needy children in Primary and High School, covering the cost of school books, uniforms, teachers' salaries, rents and school buildings. These are schools that charge small or no fees, so that the very poorest families can enable their children to gain an education and a future. Our aim is to prepare a generation of men and women equipped to face life with dignity, hope and faith. We provide scholarships to the gifted to enable them to pursue a career and become bread-winners for their families and provide economic uplift for their communities.
We also support several homes and schools for disabled children, orphans and those from disadvantaged homes, and for children with learning difficulties. We fund one Home for Blind Girls. We believe this is investment in the future of Pakistan and a provision for some of the poorest of the poor in South Asia.
Starfish Asia aims to:
- Starfish Asia invests in the children of the poor from Pakistan's minorities. Our priority is accessible education to prepare a generation that can contribute to the future of their society.
- We aim to transform illiterate communities that have no defence against exploitation and injustice and to equip them with access to an education that provides dignity and hope to the defenceless
- We support those that demonstrate real compassion for disabled, blind and orphaned children in Pakistan through homes or schools that prepare them to take their place with honour in society.
- Pakistan's Christians have been exploited and marginalised by society and we aim to restore hope and ambition to those that have lost hope, through quality training and economic opportunity.
