Pathway Christian Education Project

We work in partnership with local churches in North London to provide fun, relevant and memorable Christian education for children in primary schools.

Founded 1990

  • Mission statement

Pathway supports local churches in bringing Christian education to primary schools. Our aim is to give children the opportunity to hear about the Christian faith in ways that are fun and that they can relate to. We work in about 50 schools in the London Boroughs of Haringey, Barnet and Enfield, taking regular Christian assemblies which aim to bring the stories of the Bible to life in a way that relates to children today. We also take RE lessons and run lunchtime and after school clubs in primary schools. In an average term time week the Pathway team will speak to between 1,000 to 3,000 children through Christian assemblies and meet with about 100 children at weekly lunchtime or after school clubs – where relationships can be built, the Christian faith taught and questions answered.
Pathway recognises that one need in many local communities – especially in multi cultural North London - is the need for Christian Education in schools. Although Christian Education is still a key part of the national curriculum we have found that primary schools (especially non church schools) increasingly struggle to deliver collective worship and to teach the Christian faith. We find that when we tell children a well known Bible story, for example in an assembly, the majority of children have never heard the story before. Hollickwood Primary School in Barnet made the following comment ‘we find that the contribution to our RE curriculum is invaluable’.
