Ellie's Haven - Cornwall Limited

Ellie's Haven plans to offer relief to families caring round the clock for children suffering long-term and life-limiting illnesses, by offering them short breaks and holidays near Looe, Cornwall

Founded 2007

  • Mission statement

    What we will offer:
The goal of Ellie's Haven is to bring relief to families with children suffering long-term and life-limiting illnesses. Ellie's Haven will do this in three ways:
    1) Provide free holidays and short breaks in an appropriate, relaxing environment.
    2) Provide a venue where families on holiday can get access to heath professionals and other services that might be difficult to obtain at home.
    3) Provide a meeting place for parents to learn from each others' experiences.
Ellie's Haven complements rather than competes with hospices, focusing on bringing relief to the whole family rather than medical care for the disabled child.

    Why it's needed:
Families caring round-the-clock for severely disabled children face unbearable pressures. The disabled child's needs have to be paramount, but that often means that everybody else's needs hardly get a second thought.
Factor in unrelenting broken nights, hospital visits, financial problems, difficulties getting the right equipment, couples never getting any time together - and it's hardly surprising that family breakdowns are a common occurrence.
A holiday can be a God-send - something to look forward to, a way of escaping the daily pressure, a way of rediscovering relationships.
Julie and Nigel Libby, the inspiration behind this project, understand this only too well, having sadly lost two children to early deaths from complex medical conditions.
