Wigan Youth Zone
Wigan Youth Zone
Wigan Youth Zone is a £6million, purpose built, state-of-the-art youth centre offering young people aged 8-21 across the borough Somewhere to Go, Something to Do & Someone to talk to.
Wigan Youth Zone is a state-of-the-art, £6million youth centre opening soon in Wigan town centre. A registered charity (#1134451), its aim is to provide young people aged 8+ with ‘Somewhere to go, Something to do & Someone to talk to’.
WYZ will be open 7 days a week, 52 weeks a year.
At a cost of only 50p per visit, the facility represents unrivalled value for money in terms of youth services in the area. The building will house a full-size sports hall, cafeteria, gymnasium, climbing wall, performing arts studio, music studios, recreation area and much, much more.
The centre will be supported by around 15 full-time staff, 35 part-time staff and an army of local volunteers. As well as providing young people with diversionary activities to keep them off the streets and out of trouble, the Youth Zone will also help steer young people through the transition to adulthood by helping them to find a job or to go into further education or training.
Wigan Youth Zone is based on the already hugely successful Bolton Lads & Girls Club. Almost 3000 young people use the Bolton facility each week and the impact that it has made (and continues to make) on the local community is outstanding.
Everybody associated with Wigan Youth Zone is looking forward to being able to make a similarly positive impact on the lives of 1000s of young people in our town.
Wigan Youth Zone aims to:
- To provide young people in Wigan with a positive, vibrant, safe, encouraging environment in which they spend their free time. Costing only 50p, our facility will be open whenever young people need it.
- To provide a fully-integrated space for young people with physical disabilities and learning difficulties to mix with other young people, taking part in social, recreational and sporting activies.
- To provide first class sporting facilities, catering for all abilities, in which young people can make new friends, learn new skills and build a foundation for an active and healthy future lifestyle
- Breaking down existing social or economic barriers to help young people make positive informed choices at an early stage that help them to go into further education, training or employment.
