Founded 2003

  • Mission statement

Our vision is that every bereaved child in the UK, and their family, receives access to quality support to help alleviate the pain caused by the death of someone close.
Our mission is to be the leading provider of bereavement services for bereaved children and their families throughout the UK. When a child’s parent or significant loved one dies, their lives change forever. As well as the sadness they feel, they are often left confused and full of fear and anxiety. Grief Encounter helps families address difficult issues such as death. We help make sense of the confusion and find ways out of the abyss of grief through counselling, grief workshops, residential camps,Family Days, Rememberance days, memory making, Grief Relief Kits and specialist resources. Resources include the Grief Encounter Workbook, Mr Good Grief and Bad Time Rhymes poetry book for use at funerals and after. We also provide training and consultancy work to schools and organisations interested in bereavement. Our objectives are to deliver high quality, integrated services to bereaved children, young people and their families, to contribute our knowledge and expertise to assist the development of local, national and international strategies and promote the value of bereavement support and to operate a well-managed, well-governed and financially sustainable organisation that is able to retain a highly skilled & motivated staff team.
