Action For Elders Trust

Action For Elders adds Life to Later Life through the provision of services directed at the major health challenges associated with increased longevity and an over-burdened health and social care system in elder care. Building on the recommendations of the National Services Framework for Older People (2002) our programmes allows Older People to maintain and extend a quality based and independent life usually in their own community setting or home. Focusing, in particular on mobility and mental health our Health and Social Economy pathway reduces and prevents falls, social isolation and a less elderly NHS Dependent society.

  • Mission statement

The number of the oldest old is rising. Today over 65's make up 19% of the population and will have risen to 50% by 2030. The impact of this is already being seen on service provision through state funding and clearly cannot be maintained. Other models of interventions such as Balanced Lives will need to be found to reduce the impact of bed blocking and hospital admissions.
It is estimated that 78% of older people have mobility issues that can lead to a fall. 50% of admission rates for Accident and Emergency attendance is for accidental injury in the over 70's and sadly after a hip fracture 50% of individuals can no longer live independently. Care Services Minister, Paul Burstow further stated this week that.... "research suggests that loneliness is a great outspoken health issue, more harmful to health than obesity and there is a 50% reduction in mortality if individuals have a good strong social network. "
The Balanced Live Health and Social Economy Pathway aims to :-
    1. Reduce and/ or Prevent falls.
    2. Stimulate mental Health.
    3. Increase well-being,confidence and morale.
    4. Improve social interaction and reduce social isolation.
    5. Aid independent living.
    6. Address other health and social issues in a peer group setting.
