The Winchester Project
The Winchester Project
The Winch reaches over 1,000 children, young people and families each year. We have been working at the heart of our local community since 1973, in a formerly derelict building that has been reclaimed by local people. It’s a space that they feel proud of, where they know they can always come to discuss their problems with each other and with our experienced and caring staff. We provide ‘cradle to career’ support, from 0-25 years old.
We have made it our mission to help each child succeed, regardless of their circumstances, by giving them the opportunities and support they need.
The issues we tackle include social exclusion, homelessness and gang involvement. We provide activities, opportunities and support as well as access to additional services provided by our partners in education, health, housing and general advice. The Winch works to help resolve or reduce these issues so that children can flourish. It does this by offering a range of activities for the very young all the way through to those seeking their first employment. We call this “our cradle to career pipeline”.
Thanks to our work, more young people in North Camden now believe that a better future is within reach, and feel resilient enough to bounce back from the setbacks they are likely to experience along the way. We’re helping to create a proud and empowered local community, where children and young people will become future leaders and role models, inspiring other young people to succeed in the same way.
However, we can’t take progress and success for granted. The current economic environment is tough for so many families, and there is less funding available for children and young people’s services than ever before. In these difficult times, we need your help to keep up our work avoid wasting young potential and losing their identity, purpose and hope.
The Winchester Project aims to:
- To enable each child and young person to flourish to their full potential.
