We support girl's schooling in a poor, part of rural Uganda. Funding, for example: free lunches & grow your own projects. New buildings & maintenance, educational facilities & those orphaned by AIDS

  • Mission statement

    Support sustainable development in rural Uganda, enabling education of poor young women by helping their local school managers
    1. Define development priorities
    2. Gain the funds to meet their needs
    3. Monitor the use of funds and learn from the effectiveness of the projects.

    Close partnership with the School is key to ensuring our support and funding is relevant to their needs and will lead to ongoing sustainability.
    Priority projects include:
    1. Free midday meals which have successfully improved learning
    2. Building and maintenance projects to increase facilities, improve health etc
    3. Increasing educational facilities: library for reading, computers etc
    4. Increasing recreational facilities
    5. Improving facilities for teachers (retention of good ones is critical)
    6. Developing (and this is a big project) a local secondary school to provide continuing education
    7. Gradually changing attitudes towards valuing education of women
    8. Supporting those who have been orphaned by AIDS

  • Aims

    The Friends Of St Michael's School aims to:

    • Help development of the poor in Uganda by enabling women to play a leading role in the community
    • Ensure sustainability by supporting local management - ensuring their ownership of agreed priorities and maintaining right pace for new projects.
    • Ensure and improve our funding and advice through continuous monitoring
    • Enable those of richer nation to have the opportunity to give effectively financially, volunteer their skills, develop their own understanding and learn much from those we are supporting.
