Church Action On Poverty Limited

A national ecumenical Christian social justice charity, committed to tackling poverty in the UK. We work in partnership with churches and with people in poverty to find solutions to poverty.

Founded 1982

  • Mission statement

We aim to build a movement which brings together a diverse range of people from churches and local communities across the UK, to challenge injustice, tackle inequality and bring about positive change on issues which affect them, both locally and nationally.

Narrowing the gap between rich and poor: Linking grassroots work and advocacy, by giving a voice to those not heard and holding those in power to account.

Developing socially and financially resilient communities.

Mobilising the latent power of faith groups to raise awareness of inequalities in society in incomes, power, life chances, and to contrast this with how a ‘Good Society’ would work.

Seeing the organisation’s role within a broader movement for change, by forming alliances with a range of partner organisations.

Developing a sustainable financial model, including achieving greater resonance with individual supporters/donors.

  • Aims

Church Action On Poverty Limited aims to:

    • Building a just society: Narrowing the gap between rich and poor, reducing injustice and bringing about positive changes in policies and resource allocation.
    • Building capacity to exercise power: Enabling local communities to have a more effective, stronger and more powerful public voice, and bring about change for themselves.
    • Building a movement for positive change: Narrowing the gaps between rich and poor and enabling people in poverty to live more robust and sustainable lives, by building strategic alliances.
    • Changing public perceptions: Celebrating positive images of people in poverty and challenging negative media representations, by communicating the stories and reality of life in unequal Britain.
    • Building an effective and sustainable organisation: Achieving maximum reach and impact by securing the resources to be a transparent, accountable, creative, learning and sustainable organisation.
