Founded 2000

  • Mission statement

Edington Music Festival in Wiltshire is one of the world's leading Festivals of Church Music, with a reputation far beyond these shores. Since 1956, choristers and organists from Cathedrals and Colleges all over the UK have gathered for a week-long celebration of complex and beautiful music within four services a day in the 14th Century Priory Church, speaking across generations, countries and, importantly, beyond narrow definitions of faith.
As it began, so it continues: the musicians not only give their talents free, but pay for the privilege and joy of being part of the Festival. They are hosted by the local community, and the services are unticketed.
The Association was formed to provide financial stability and a secure future, not only for the Festival, and the work it does in commissioning new music every year and promoting it world-wide, but also, through its members, to provide a framework for the continued development of the relationship between the Festival, its audiences and the local community. Fundraising activities have the dual benefit of securing the Festival's artistic programme, but also involving the members and the community in shared goals.
In pursuance of this aim, the Association offers a programme of arts and education activities between festivals, but is finding that the deterioration of the existing organ is limiting both existing and future plans. It is this which has given rise to the Edington Organ Project.
