Interplay Theatre Trust

Interplay enables young people who experience economic, social and sensory barriers, to realise their potential by creating and experiencing the arts.

Founded 1970

  • Mission statement

From our origins as a community theatre company, we have grown a national reputation for our work. Through our innovative range of projects, we support young people to (re)engage in their community, through learning and participation. We believe that everyone has a story to tell. We strive to give a voice to those who experience barriers through challenging circumstances. We work in a range of different mediums, including film, music and theatre. Many of the young people we work with have special needs, have grown up in the care system or have experienced personal challenges in their family or educational lives. Through working closely with the young people, we have created international award-winning films, theatre productions that tour to special schools, and supported young people to achieve accreditation and go on to further and higher education.

  • Aims

    Interplay Theatre Trust aims to:

    • Involve our community in our activity and continue to place our audiences at the centre of the experience, and enable them to directly influence our work.
    • Challenge preconceptions of young people today through their participation in positive activity.
    • Empower young people using the arts, giving them a voice and the tools to tell their stories.
    • Create a unique brand of sensory theatre, cementing our reputation as a leading exponent of this work, via our partnerships with special schools and other organisations around the country.
