The Alan Bott Centre

To provide a holiday centre for those with multiple sclerosis (MS) and other neurological conditions so that they can have a short break from their normal environment.

Founded 2012

  • Mission statement

To ensure that those affected by MS or other neurological conditions (including their carers) have a suitable provision for short term breaks.

The charity’s objects are specifically restricted to the following:

To relieve the needs of persons suffering from multiple sclerosis, associated conditions and any other neurological conditions and their carers in particular but not exclusively by the provision of a facility which will provide respite care and holidays in the interests of social welfare for recreation or other leisure time occupation of persons who have need of such facilities by reason of their youth, age, infirmity or disability, poverty or social circumstances with the object of improving their conditions of life.

The target of The Alan Bott Centre is to operate a 15 bed unit within reasonable distance of the centre of York. A dedicated team of nursing and care staff will provide the medical services, and support staff will provide the ancillary functions such as catering, cleaning and administration. Volunteers will be involved on a daily basis covering such activities as reception, the café, and guest outings, and there is already a nucleus of volunteers from the Woodlands group that have expressed an interest in helping once the new centre is up and running.

The Alan Bott Centre has already opened a charity shop in York to raise both funds and awareness of the Centre's aims and objectives. The aim now is to raise the necessary funds for the building.

  • Aims

The Alan Bott Centre aims to:

    • To open a centre that provides a break-cum-holiday for those with MS and similar neurological conditions but with medical support so that carers can also take a break at the same time.
