Interburns is an international network of health professionals seeking to transform burn care in low and middle income countries (LMICs) through education, training, research and capacity-building.
A world where the suffering, death and disability caused by global burn injuries have drastically decreased and every burns patient has access to the highest standards of burn care.
To transform the global provision of burn care in low and middle income countries through education, training, research, and service delivery.
Burns is an enormous global problem that the World Health Organisation (WHO) has described as ‘the forgotten global public health crisis’. 11 million people a year suffer burns requiring medical attention, and 95% of these injuries occur in low and middle income countries, 70% of them affecting children. Burn care in these countries is often inadequate and inaccessible to the poorest patients. Interburns exists to solve this problem and believes that through high quality training and education, all burns patients can receive good quality care despite limited resources.
Interburns has trained over 1,500 health professionals, drawing on an international network of expert medical volunteers to ensure training is cost-effective and sustainable. Our international team of expert medical volunteers is primarily from low and middle income countries, with a wealth of experience in delivering burn care in health facilities with limited resources.
Interburns aims to:
- Set and implement the highest standards of burn care in low resource environments.
- Build an international, multi-disciplinary network of highly motivated and expert medical volunteers to deliver high quality standards, research, training and education.
- Develop a strong evidence base of research and literature on global burns injuries and burn care, to raise awareness of burns as a global health crisis at the local, national and international level.
- Deliver comprehensive training and education for professional burn care teams, carers and the public, which will radically transform burn injury prevention, standards, and patient outcomes.
